But Seriously Folks….

The Peoria Jazz Allstars,a group of District 150 high school students who play jazz will be holding their annual fund raising event at the Holiday Inn City Center Friday, the 15th.  (6pm til ?)

These kids are very talented musicians and are District 150 students from all the 4 high schools that have as a group over the years traveled the globe.  It is one thing that is right with District 150.

Come out and enjoy a silent auction and some great jazz music or send them a donation or even volunteer to help.  Too many times all we read on the blogs is what’s wrong with our schools.  Well, this is one thing that is right.

Contact Marcia Merriman at the District offices or just come down.  There are always seats available and I am sure they will accommodate you.  No need to walk past protestors, or listen to negative this or that.  Just good music from students of our District.

I’ll be there.  I volunteer for this group every year.  Say hello to me on the spotlight if you come.

Bet you don’t see this event covered in the papers.

UPDATE:  In the Holiday Inn City Center, Downtown, downstairs ballroom, price (donation is $10) and there is a silent auction throughout 3 sets.  Tickets at the door…. and there are a lot of neat items for auction, like plants, flowers, services from vendors, and donated items from local businesses.  Jim Barnett (used to be weather guy at WEEK and Mary Jo Papich, original founder of the Jazz Allstars) MC the event.

Took your suggestion and went. At least until half way through the second set. The kids did a great job. The public needs to support the kids by attending events like this. And you are right, I did not see any media there pointing out that there are good kids with supportive parents in Dist. 150.

Perhaps it should be noted that Jim Barnett is a product of Peoria Manual High School. Hmm, come to think of it so am I!

Ramble: Thanks for coming, it was nice to see you and I hope you enjoyed the show. These kids not only play music, they get good grades, belong to school clubs, volunteer in the community, do sports, and many take second languages.
It's a shame that some of those that are so quick to point out the faults of our District and even take the time and effort to print T-Shirts and protest signs couldn't take time out to celebrate and support some of the things right in schools. After all, the District was there before these people and will be there after more than likely.

Cesspool: Yes and look where you are today. I have to check your blog and post a link to it on mine.

My daughter also played with the Jazz All-Stars. (Remember those Black and White vests?) Aside from lasting friendships, these kids become world travelers and develop such a maturity at an early age. We need to support their efforts in the arts in any way we can.
