Most laughable statement ever made in Peoria….
Residential 25 mph speed limit 'not enforceable'
WTF! Maybe it’s time we the people make these big brained people on our council wear red noses and big floppy shoes. Gonna act like a clown, then you should dress like one or at least pull your head out of your ass long enough to get some fresh air.
We get what we elect and I guess since some districts send back the same council persons every election cycle, we should expect this mindless crap.
OK, the police can enforce a 30 mph speed limit on Sheridan Rd, which they do radar from time to time and they can do the same for Main St but not a 25 mph limit on any street. Huh.
Well, about 5 years ago when I took up a petition from my neighbors asking the city to reduce our limits from 30 to 25 mph, not only did the council authorize the lower speed limit, I requested and got the police to radar the street in question because school children from a nearby middle school walked this side walk less street everyday. Yeah, we still have streets in the south end without any sidewalks. The police wrote tickets and after about 3 weeks, traffic through the neighborhood slowed. Word got out.
So, now the city says neighborhoods will have to request the lower limits if they want them and they are not enforceable. Wow, I wish I had what they are smoking at city hall.
Here’s an idea. Police, get of your ass and do more traffic enforcement around this city. More at least than is oblivious to the average citizen. People ignore traffic lights, they ignore speed limit signs, they ignore any sign like, NO LEFT TURN at Moss and Western because some assbag is always turning left in front of me there. (In fact I hope the old lady that turned in front of me against the sign, then flipped me the finger fails her next license exam.) You can see burnt out brake lights at EVERY intersection and cars with one headlight. (I pass one every morning on the way to work for the last 3 months with one headlight)
Here, when you pull these clowns over you will most likely find your wanted criminals, your drugs, guns, and, here’s a surprise, people who don’t even have a license. Think about it. Extra revenue from the tickets. Catching wanted criminals who are mobile anyway because how often do you read in the paper that a car fired shots at a group of people and just maybe people will drive safer, slower, and I won’t get the finger from a grandma making an illegal left turn in front of me.
Naw, too fuckin simple.
BTW, to the City, please fix the damn light at Main and Maplewood. It changes for no reason and stops traffic on Main. No pedestrians, no cars, no nothing, just turns red and backs up traffic. No wonder brake lights burn out.

Well I agree with you 100% on this one. I thought the not enforceable statement was very lame and totally stupid. Give that one a big WTF?
The rules of the road states the peed limit of cities and towns is "30 mph (unless otherwise posted)". This may be where the powers that be base their unenforceble comment. However I did find a city larger than Peoria that has been able to enforce such a law.
The speed limit for all residential streets and many collector streets in Naperville is 25 mph. This reduced Neighborhood Speed Limit 25 MPH program directly addresses the biggest traffic concern reported to the City of Naperville; speeding. City of Naperville Police has developed enforcement efforts to support the program, which has made this approach credible.
The non-residential portions of collector streets, as identified in the City of Naperville’s Master Thoroughfare Plan, are not eligible for establishment of reduced speed limits below 30 mph.
make that SPEED LIMIT. Damn I miss that finger!
The light at Main and Maplewood does indeed only change when triggered... but, it can be triggered by someone simply turning right and thus it seems no one is there when it changes. Unfortunately they seem to have it set to go through the entire cycle even if no one is otherwise at the other points.
Have you seen the new stop light the city put on Allen road for Sud's and the future Methodist? It has been operational for some time now and I constantly have to stop at the light at 5:15 a.m. and not a car in sight. It runs through it cycle at all times. Allen road is beginning to look like University between Forrest Hill and War.
