Well there is always two sides to a story. I am just wondering what kind of kids hang out in groups of 20 or more at 10:30 at night. I am wondering where the parents of these kids are and why they would allow their children to be out late. Yes, I think 10:30pm is late for underage kids to be out in large groups roaming neighborhoods. But then again, this just may be kids being kids. I mean, the guy yells at them to quite it down and move along and why wouldn’t you, as a kid, start throwing rocks at him and his house? The guy is being mean after all right? Who doesn’t enjoy a large loud group of youths in front of your home at 10:30 at night? Just kids being kids.
So the guy calls the police. The police come but those darn pesky kids disappeared by the time they got there. One wonders how long it took them to respond because of the cut backs in police in Peoria from our great city council. Still, the police ask a few neighbors and they get the standard reply; “We know nuttin.” What can they do?
The guy, a disabled Army veteran with a wife and 5 month old child went out to confront the group only to be attacked himself. What an ass right? The gull of this guy wanting to protect his property and family from kids just being kids.
Well sir, I honor your service and I am sad this event happened. I’ll bet this isn’t the first time he or others in that area have had to deal with this but hey, welcome to the jungle. Maybe we can get some pastors together and offer prayers for peace? Maybe we can get some quality lip service from our city council? Maybe it’s time we let the animals have the zoo and leave.
The race of this group wasn’t mentioned. Really it doesn’t matter. Or does it? I wonder. You all reading this know deep down it was probably a group of black girls. Can’t say it though because pointing that out is like calling the whole black community thugs, right? And it’s hard to say it outright without sounding like a racist pig isn’t it? Like the deal over on Thrush where race was clearly determined. So…what makes these kids act like animals?
This is an interesting and sad story. I’ll bet it plays out in various neighborhoods around Peoria but doesn’t make the papers. Or the Drudge Report.
Well, whether a group of black or white girls, I hope the police detectives help this guy and maybe find some of the girls responsible for the rock throwing. I hope the police can make a few arrests because after all, last I checked, throwing rocks and attacking a person is a crime. I hope this comes to pass because some people are tired of waiting for society and our rules of law to work. Some just may get tired of this bullshit and come out of their homes and start shooting back. Because not everyone can pull up stakes and leave this town to escape this crap. Some feel that you just have to make a stand. If that day happens, it will be the beginning of the end. Last one out, turn off the lights.
Bottom line? Parents, (if you can call yourself one) teach your kids to be kind to people with disabilities. Mean kids just suck.

Well, damn. Mean kids do suck. Let's track these kids down and issue some punishment upon them.
Sucks doesn't, EM? You can't honestly discuss these problems without some 'tard calling you a racist pig. As long as the "black community" has that racist crutch to lean on, we'll never be able to honestly address these problems. And that's sad because it hurts them too.
Behavior like this will never be excepted as the norm. It don't matter to anyone the color of a persons skin. Its about the character of the person. These kids have no character not to mention morals. Until these people (whatever color they are) step up and rise above the ignorance they will continue to be considered second class citizens. And the rest of us will treat them as such. Dont like it look within yourself and make it better. You earn respect you cant demand it. Stop trying and earn your way just like all the other american immigrants have done. We have all had hardships and it has made us strong and independent.
i got a nice can of white spray paint here with lavander's name on it. the solution here is to build a dunkin donuts where to boos kick it. and why are drug dealers aloud to hang out on linn st. in broad day light alongside columbia park and openly smoking dope?

There was a group of about 15 kids on our block, gathered up, around 10-11p, tonight. They were making a fair bit of noise with their laughter and screams. Ages ranged from 3 to 16. They were happily playing hide n seek tag with the full moon shining on. Neighbors were totally fine with it. The children will sleep well tonight.
After the tag game, a number of them went swimming in the pool at a neighbors house. The home owner was totally cool with it. My son rolled in about 11:30p.
Not every kid or group of kids out late is looking for trouble. Just sayin....
Yes Mahkno, I too lived in Happy land and yes as kids we played out until after 10pm playing kick the can. We were loud most likely and we ran across neighbors lawns. We didn't however swear at our neighbors, throw rocks at our neighbors and fight in our neighbors yards. Yes not all groups of kids out late, white, black, or whatever are looking to cause trouble. But, you know damn well what's happening in some areas of the bluffs in this town and the only kick the cans should have been the butts of these kids. Still, two sides of every story. Emerge had posted that this Dennis guy was a convict from Texas, a trouble maker. Then she pulled her comment so maybe his version is a lot different from what really happened?
I pulled my comment because I don't know what kind of person Dennis is and it was a stretch (unfortunately you re-posted above the exact portion of my post that I wanted deleted).
My main thing was that you are correct; there are two sides to every story. Dennis comes from Texas in May; he's in Peoria in July and he's outside confronting children who are talking on the sidewalk outside of his home? Really?
It's not illegal to talk on the sidewalk outside a house. This is a free country.
He obviously knew of the "groups of kids running the streets" here in Peoria; why didn't he call the police while they were standing in front his home to insure they were caught?
If a group of 20 loud mouth girls were outside his home, why would he go out with his 5 month old child and his wife?
Were they looking for trouble? Is it now open season on our children? They can’t congregate at all and have a conversation without being treated like they have no rights to be on the street. I believe the curfew is 11:00 here in Peoria.

Really, does he live near a rock quarry, where did all the rocks to throw come from? 20 girls throwing rocks - that's a lot of rocks yall. AND they are throwing rocks from afar, but still he got close enough for the group to start punching him? Again, was he looking to start trouble with the kids?
I won't deny... as a matter of fact, I know we have problems with groups of kids in the street causing a ruckus. However, we don't need people from other places coming to Peoria looking for a chance to be confrontational with our kids.
We have enough long standing residents with real issues and we should not let outsiders come in on blogs (or otherwise) deliberately trying to exacerbate the situation.
Seriously, Emerge?!?? I can't believe you brought up these points and feel okay with a somewhat defense of the behavior of the kids.
The actions of the teens are inexcusable. Better to just walk away.
But... I can't help but think there may be more to this story than we otherwise know. Could the kids have been provoked?
PAP: If some neighbor had snapped at the older teenagers, I don't know that they would have mouthed back or not. I would hope not but then it might all depend on what was actually said.
I guess Emerge has just rolled out the welcome wagon for anyone who was considering moving here from other areas. I am sure Dennis' sole purpose in moving here, where his wife has family according to the article, was to cause trouble with a group of teenage girls.

Ok You don't need to live near a rock quarry to throw rocks. Two rocks means rocks. At any rate, you don't throw rocks to cause bodily harm or damage to property. That should be instilled in a young adult or teenager. Again, no consequences for actions by some of today's youth.
Again, if a group of kids was hanging out in front of my home I wouldn't shut and lock my doors and call the police to let them handle it, I would instead confront them. I would be polite but firm. I'm willing to bet that maybe they would blow me off. But if they started to verbally assault me, throw rock or rocks at me or my home, then I would call the police. Maybe that is what happened in the PJS story? Who knows for sure. But I don't think the cops are being lackadaisical in their duties for one minute. I just think the group scattered like these groups do and the neighbors weren't being cooperative with the police. That is the the sad part.

Because the "white community" just doesn't understand. How are we supposed to understand a momma who's 14 years old because her momma was 16 years old? How are we supposed to get that because noone in their neighborhood pays for electric, rent, food, utilities, or school supplies they know ANYthing they want, they should get AND for free? I am so tired of people, any people, making excuses for this behavior as well as the acceptance of this behavior. BAD behavior is BAD behavior. It doesn't matter the color of the offender, the reason why they did it, or where their baby daddy is....it's just wrong, immoral, and usually ILLEGAL! ! Punish for the crime committed----whether it be in the classroom or in the streets. It is time to STOP letting these people (criminals--ALL color criminals) get away with everything because they have had it hard in their life! ! ! ! !
I don't know about you all, but, I have told my step kids, if an adult yells at you or starts trouble, LEAVE! I have tried to teach them, It is better to move on. There are times to stand your ground and times not to. I had a neighbor come to me last year and told me my kids were with a group of kids defacing a local business sign. I told her thanks and I will look into it. I asked them about it, and they said they were just there, watching, I told them next time stand somewhere else or they will be lumped in. Of course my wife was livid that her "angels" were accused of something they didn't do. I told here this is a teaching moment, and they could avoid something worse by being smart enough to leave when others are doing wrong. I don't know if they learned from it or not, but, I tried. As far as this adult "provoking" these kids, really? What could he have done other then physically attack them. I think the law is very clear, you can call someone any thing you want, you cannot touch them or it is assault and or battery. I am not sticking up or putting down anyone. I am just saying, shouldn't the kids have enough respect for adults to just leave?
A veteran Peoria police officer told me you can charge someone with assault if they verbally make a physical threat such as "I'm gonna knock your head off", etc.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say most average black people - just trying make a living and live in peace - are sick of this crap too but are afraid to speak up. I've talked to them.

vonster... that's true. i can not think of any other race who does that to their own kind. what a disgrace. if you are a law abiding black and stand up against black crime you are called a "Tom" or a "house nigga" by the blacks who enable the bad behavior.
