Amazing news!

The sun will rise in the west today.  It has too. The Earth has tilted because the city council had their grubby hands on $3.5 million from South Town TIF and were posed to used it for their pet project, the hotel.

They didn’t.  Why?  Because the locals showed up.  They vote.  They work.  They live in South Town.  It must have been amazing to see South Towns representative, Gulley flop around like a fish out of water.  You know he was going to vote for this.  He has to.  Van Auken told him to.

They, the council, voted down using the money after all.  Good news!

Bad news?  The damn hotel is still going to cost the tax payers through the nose and we are still on the hook for the shadiest project ever.

SIDE NOTE: The Garbage Fee is at $13.  $13 a month IS $13 a month and part of that $13 goes to tote rental.  Please don’t tell me it is limited or goes the life of a contract.  It’s $13 a month no matter how you paint it and we have NO TOTES!

Em!

I have a question.

Today, when most people are at work, our mayor is giving the state of the city address. Since only the people rich enough not to work at this time will be in attendance, why don't they charge $400 to attend instead of $40? They can afford it. Would be a way for the city to obtain extra cash for the hotel debacle. Doesn't make any difference to us working stiffs since we can't be there as we have to be at work so we can pay for the silly garbage tote.

sun rose from the east. the council will be scrambling to see what other pot of money to raid for their hotel.

I thought I purchased my tote. Why do I have to rent it. I missed something, apparently. Oh yeah, I missed it when Ardis f**ked us all up the ass! It's all coming back to me.

Now that the southtown TIF people were saved from movement of funds will the city use the money in the southtown TIF? Or will it be returned to the taxing districts? What plans for spending will be done with the $$$. The citzens may have won the battle but whay about the war? Any shovel reddy projects for the money? or will the TIF expire before they can plan, engineer and build anything?

Marty:

Oh ... the COP will probably throw some trinket projects (think streetlights and sidewalks or along those lines) to the South Town residents and hope that that will appease them. Then the COP will probably report that neighborhood concerns have been met. Then at future city council meeting ... the COP will roll out the same item and try to do it again. I can only hope that I am incorrect about this tragically possible scenario.

The only reason why there were no neighborhood concerns was because the neighbors were not asked ... the usual mo for the COP ... unless the locals read the agenda and show up ... they are left out of the decision making loop.

Kudos for everyone who showed up and stood up for what was correct and stopped the COP shell game.

Thank you for your wonderful public service for all of us.

There is a story in today's paper about the success of River West. They report that they evicted a number of problem people from a crime infested housing development. The article fails to report where those criminals went and it being the downfall of the East Bluff, parts of the West Bluff and most certainly parts of the center bluff neighborhoods. That is hardly a success. It took from one small area and has now destroyed numerous neighborhoods. This is the thinking of PHA, District 150, and the City Council. A lack of comprehensive planning on their actions. eg: city's development projects takes money from fighting crime therefore crime spreads even into the most favored 5th district. Why are our leaders so short sighted. Bringing in the Feds will be a short term solution. They are only focusing on guns. There have numerous burgularies, assaults, stabbings, robberies. The problem is the people we keep fostering in this community and drawing in from other communities.
They are looking at the old BelWood as a work release program, part of the county board wants to send those folks downtown instead. Don't we have enough parolees sent to this area. Aren't we breeding home grown criminals fast enough? We don't need any more criminals...

I'm looking forward to getting the 96 gallon tote due to racoon problems.

No, I'm not wild about the $13 charge either but we've got lots bigger problems here, EM.
