Emerge goes to the MLK Dinner and this is what I’ve learned…

This is a quote (below in highlighted font) from her blog and you know what, like a hell of a lot of people in this town, yes both black and white, I am tired of the senseless shootings, the attacks on the elderly in their homes, killing people for $20 (yes a punk white boy in the Heights) and all the other crap that goes on including random shootings into houses killing innocent little children.  Then, once a year, people in this community come together, mainly to pat themselves on the back, and hold a dinner in honor of Martin Luther King Jr..

This year they fought over speakers because one cancelled, one was basically too damn dumb to speak a sentence although he could run a football (notice how nothing was said about dumping him?) one was way too critical of President Obama and what Travis feels as Obama’s inability to do anything to help the many starving and poor in this country.  I don’t have a clue what they would expect Obama to do per se, but considering all the entitlement programs that the government runs and it has been over 60 years of civil rights in this country, King must be rolling over in his grave.  If Dr. King were alive today and saw just the crap going on in Peoria with the black youths and black on black crime, he would stand up and say; “Stop expecting the handouts and standup and man up for yourself and your children!”     But here is the quote that got me….

"There are more blacks under correctional control today -- in prison or jail, on probation or parole -- than were enslaved in 1850, a decade before the Civil War began."  (Strange, I drove by a prison outside of Galesburg this morning during yard exercise and all I saw was young blacks. Is this the fault of white society?)

And?  I'm not out there pulling the trigger and shooting houses and my neighbors. I'm not out there robbing gas stations and dealing drugs.  I did make sure my kids grew up learning that nothing is handed to you and you have to work to earn both respect and the things you want in life.  You can't stare in the window and wonder what should be given to you, you must go in through the back, ask for a job, and work for what you want.

Did he mention at all during his speech blaming everyone all around for the ills of society that it's time for the Black community to "man up"? 60 years of civil rights, affirmative action, welfare, Section 8, free cell phones, free lunches, utilities paid, and let’s see……..free medical.

Ah what the hell…as long as there is no consequences for your actions, as long as you are handed and EXPECT free this and that, and as long as high school girls are getting pregnant, and not worrying about the bills or who will really raise their child, this will go on and the prisons will continue to fill with both white and yes, sadly, a majority of blacks.

I am Liberal mostly and I think humans should take care of humans.  I think that no one should die because they can’t afford a doctor in the richest most powerful country on Earth but then I think it’s time to crack a nut and come down on the abuse in the welfare system, not because it is costing us.  B-1 bombers cost more as do drones and wars, but crack it because we have generation after generation growing up thinking somebody owes them something.  They are the ones staring in the window wondering what you should give them this week. They are the ones that will break the window and feel nothing taking what they want.  Make them come to the back and apply for a job and earn it so they can buy what’s in the window and maybe someday, own the shop the window is in.

Yes jobs are hard to find and yes it’s tough to climb out of poverty but it can be done.  It just means, work and earning, in stead of robbing and shooting.  Maybe then there won’t be so many blacks incarcerated in our prisons. Then maybe at one of those luncheons honoring Dr. King, a speaker can stand and say fewer blacks are in prison today thanks to hard work, education, and caring about each other and it’s because of us!    And yet it goes on year after year, more poverty, more scary black statistics, and blame it seems, to everyone else.  Just a thought.

Funny that you are commenting on a speech that you didn't atttend and a book that you haven't read (although honestly reading doesn't seem to be your "thing"). I'm a regular reader of your blog and I'm thankful because it reminds me that as black man I'm still judged on my skin color. Think I'm not? Read your post (and nearly every other post) you painted all African Americans with the same brush. Keep in mind that there are black men and women making great strides without handouts. Just because you faithfully defend Obama doesn't mean you aren't a racist (because you are). You seem to becoming more and more bitter... Let it go... move to Bartonville and be happy! Life's too short...

What does the fact that Emerge went to a luncheon have anything to do with with you said?

The statistic has nothing to do with what the speaker talked about. You seem to forget that white folks and the corporations they run are some of the biggest recipients of welfare in this country.

Interesting how you constantly talk about what somebody else is getting, it almost sounds like envy. Weird.

Well PAP I know your not a racist but can't say the same about the first commenter. Who cares about your skin color, that's right only people that always bring it up when they don't get what they want or think they deserve. I'm sure ill be called a racist also but I could careless what I'm called.

First, yes I stole the "window" example from William Raspberry who spoke at the Black Achievement Awards dinner here sometime back. He basically told the audience that blacks do need to start pulling themselves up and stop expecting someone else to do it for them.
As for my reading, well, Anon, you don't know me and what I read but I assure you I do read which is more than 90% of the students at any one of our high schools.

Emerge, I just choose a title and never said it was spoken by the speaker, Dr. Dyson. It was posted on your site and many know this statistic but what does it mean? Ask anybody if blacks make up the prison system.I am asking, who's fault is that?

People love labels and I just reflect what people see and are mad about concerning Peoria and this area. Labels? Afro this Afro that and yet when someone points this out, you are labeled racist. I think I am a little racist, who isn't, but in no way envy the freebies Emerge. People, whites and blacks that do the right thing, work, raise their kids, support the community, many walk a fine line from being able to get by and being on the side that needs those freebies as you call them. I am glad many are there as Lord knows, who may need them. It is not envy but I do know of the abuse of these programs and it is everywhere. And if you could talk to people, white people, they will tell you it is a mostly black problem because that is what they see. Look at Kroger's on aid day. I know whites are drawing this and people need this to survive and I don't have a problem as I am blessed enough to work and support this but that is not the perception many people have and that is what I am trying to say. Same with crime. Look in the paper and 99% of the time it's a black kid's mug shot for the latest shooting or death. Yet, Emerge you don't like labels and yet that seems to be the black community's mantra. Labels. Well, call me what you want, I just reflect what is said around this town when I listen in at bars, restaurants, people at work, and other places. Some of the most racist people I have run into in my life have been blacks. Sorry if you think I am labeling a whole race that way, I am not but people do just that. I know better. But then I don't like the use of labels. I ask you, What have I said about crime and welfare abuse that isn't true? I never said it was breaking this country financial wise, nor do I deny that we, as a society must have a safety net for those who can't support themselves. I just resent those that refuse to support themselves.

Statistics/crime reports do not lie and portray the facts of mostly black violence/vandalism and drug crimes. Until the welfare system is updated to true help versus generations of parasites, living off others by choice, this "you owe me" thinking will not change and the inherent lifestyle of crime. This blog consistently captures the very essence of the problem and projects the correct answers for reform.

If the black community really wants to change the stereotype image, perhaps they should consider applying themselves to education versus cafeteria fights, pull up the pants, cut/comb hair styles, speak without the Yo, Bro! dialogue and begin to reach toward autonomy versus lifelong welfare. Just some thoughts from one who has worked since age 16 until current retirement - call me crazy -

I can't speak for PAP but I would say it's not envy, because an envious person WANTS what the others are getting. It doesn't really matter what percentage of which race receives entitlement, it's the fact that the government has given so freely that this generation expects it. Of course I feel it's a very simple reason why our society has fallen. It's because of a lack of morals, family, and God. And I'm sure a great majority will label me as fanatical, whack job, ignorant, stuck in a simpler, more stupid time because I seriously think a lack of God in America contributes to these problems but I know what I speak is true. And if more people loved like Christ did, this wouldn't be an issue. Those who know the truth will understand me, however others will label and bash. That's okay...the same happened to Jesus...by his own people. And you know what Jesus did in that moment? He loved them and prayed for them. That's an example to live by and I actually think Dr. King would agree.

Most people in the black population particularly race inciters like emerge and any of the sheeple who attended that very divisive MLK luncheon couldn't pass a 5 question quiz on MLK. They have no idea who MLK was or what his message was about. Nevermind that the guy was a complete scumbag in his personal life. Put the crackpipe down, pull up your pants, and get a job.
